Rooms

I can't join a room

  • Check the code. Room codes are 5 characters of letters and numbers, and they never use I, O, 1 or 0, so there's nothing to mix up.
  • Make sure both phones are online, and that the host is still in the lobby. New players can't join once a round has started, but anyone who was already in the room can rejoin with the same code.
  • Every player in a room needs a different name. If yours is taken, add an initial.
  • Rooms that nobody has played in for 24 hours are cleaned up. If a code is older than that, ask the host to create a new room.

Someone's phone went offline in the middle of a round

The game waits up to 45 seconds for a player who drops offline, then carries on without them. Players who are offline stay on the ballot, and their vote still counts if they already cast it.

The host left

If the host leaves the room, another player becomes the host automatically, and the room keeps going.

I can't start a round

A round needs at least 3 players, and the imposters must be fewer than half the group. With 4 players you can have 1 imposter, with 6 up to 2, and so on.

Playing

The same person keeps being the imposter

Since version 2.3.2, imposter turns even out over a game night: the more often someone has been the imposter, and whoever was the imposter last round, the less likely they are to be picked. Nobody is ever ruled out, so it stays a surprise. In a Room, this depends on the host's phone, so make sure the host has the latest version.

How do I change the language or category?

Both are on the setup screen in Pass & Play, and in the lobby for the host of a Room. The words change with the language you choose.

Can I turn off sounds or vibration?

Yes. Tap the gear on the home screen to switch sound effects and haptics on or off.

I keep getting the same words

Spy Word remembers the words your phone has played and picks fresh ones until you've seen the whole category. Reinstalling the app resets that memory.

Ads and notifications

Spy Word is free and shows ads: a small banner at the bottom of some screens, and at most one full-screen ad when you leave the results of a round.

The app doesn't ask for notification permission. If you allowed notifications in an earlier version and want them off, go to iOS Settings, then Notifications, then Spy Word.

Your data

Spy Word has no accounts. Settings and game history live on your phone and are removed when you delete the app. Room data is deleted when the host closes the room, or after 24 hours without play. The Privacy Policy has the details. To ask about or delete anything else, email info@mehdichitsaz.com.
